I grew up in Mareeba and studied music privately from the age of 9. I started teaching when I was still a student myself, at the age of 16, by which time I had decided that I wanted to make music teaching my career, and I was working towards my higher grades. Once I completed Year 12, I studied as a remote student for my Diploma of Music with the Australian Guild of Music Education, which is Melbourne based. I completed my diploma in 2001, and whilst working towards it I also gained my Associate Diploma of the Australian Guild of Music & Speech in 2000.
I taught from my home based studio in Mareeba for a while, as well as providing instrumental tuition at the local catholic primary school, then I
made the huge move to the UK in late 2003, where I taught in schools via a music teaching co-operative, working 5 days a week in up to 13 schools at a time. I also continued to teach privately at home. I did not find working so many hours in schools agreeable with motherhood though, so after the birth of my daughter I taught from home exclusively.
After 13 years in the UK I returned to Mareeba and have been working on re-establishing my private teaching practice in my old studio that was purpose built for me over 20 years ago by my late father. I love being back in Australia, and I enjoy bringing the experience I gained from teaching in the UK.
My latest venture is to offer ONLINE lessons via Skype or Zoom, allowing pupils in isolated areas to still be able to enjoy lessons without having to travel.
